There are lots of families activities, probably more than you are accustom to, in some ways as family life is really big here. You will get a mix of young families from OU, USU, Texas, MO and of course AR and football is really big!!!! Many of the young families around here are transplants so you will feel pretty much at home. No, it won't be like the bay area but you can get about anthing you want except Trader Joes.Maybe someday!!! It isn't an inside mall, but is very trendy. She couldn't stop talking about the Promenade mall. In fact, one of our daughters from Florida, who is used to great malls was here last week. Rogers has an awesome outdoor shopping center. The drug issue is mainly meth and yes, it has been rated pretty high, but remember, in a small area it doesn't take too many busts to put it up toward the top. I like this forum, so please keep any tidbits coming! Thanks! We went to midwestern colleges and would love to connect with people our age with young kids who want to socialize.

I'm hoping my optimism is warranted and that we will meet nice, friendly and fun people in NWA. ARe you able to swoop in and offer less than asking on homes? I'd love to get 3,800 to 4,000 sq. Like the bay area, you all seem to have been hit hard in real estate with the bubble bursting. Rogers seems to have a nice shopping center? Retail shopping is kind of important to me as we have a lot of options here and if I can try to feel at home (as sad as that sounds) with the familiar stores, that would be good. Rogers so far keeps coming to me as a possiblity with it's proximity to both Bentonville (for work) and Fayetteville (for fun). New-ish construction, nice (possibly gated) neighborhood that is family oriented. We are looking to spend $350-$420 on a home and want to get the most bang for our buck. I'm just worried about drugs being more interwoven in a small town atmosphere. It is true, in the bay area we have "big city" crime here but it's such a large area that drugs are confined mostly to Oakland, etc. The reason the drug thing came up is because I saw Benton county was one of the 25 worst drug counties in the U.S. I have wanted to move somewhere for a while where I feel we could give our kids a nice, small-ish town upbringing with baseball, backyard BBQs, yada, yada. I grew up in Kansas City but have lived in the bay area now for 11 years. The weather here is FANTASTIC so I'm a little concerned about going back to winters, etc. That's one of the only pluses to leaving the bay area. I'm a rarity in the Bay Area with my conservative views. This doesn't mean you can not find a mixture of both no matter where you live. If you are looking for a liberal atmosphere you may want to think about Fayetteville, but if you lean more toward conservatism Bentonville and BV would be your best bets. It is a good place to raise kids, you have a good combination of rural and city life and the people are friendly. To some Fayetteville might seem like a long commute, you are coming from the bay area so this will seem like nothing to you. Lots of Wal Mart families live in Bentonville, as well as the east side of Bella Vista, yes, Rogers and as far south as Fayetteville.

Yes, there is meth and pot everywhere, but certainly the suburban family should not be affected.īecause schools are an issue with you probably Bentonville would be a good place to start looking for homes. You are coming from the bay area in Calif and worry about drugs here? I don't think I would be concerned at all: you may be in for a cultural shock, but drugs won't be one of the problems. Suggestions and "insider tips" would be welcome. Does Rogers feel safe and isolated from these issues or is it pervasive with burglaries, etc.? Mainly I want friendly, young families with good schools.

What neighborhoods in NWA are the safest, most small-kid friendly with the best schools? Is it true that crime is a problem in Rogers and elswewhere? Sounds like drugs are an issue. My husband may accept a job at Walmart and we currently live in the San Francisco Bay area.
